This is so cool...
Lotte Reiniger is a turn of the century stop motion animator
from Germany, influenced by the Chinese art of silhouette
puppetry. The animation technique Reiniger invented involved
manipulated cutouts made from cardboard and thin sheets of
lead under a camera.
Her film The Adventures of Prince Achmed (1926) is the oldest
surviving animated feature film. Which has been restored and
is available here.
More of her work and animations influenced by her here.
